Writing Process-

Invention-  creating ideas-- important or matter to others.
Organization-  Plan out your essay-- 1st, 2nd 3rd, etc.
Drafting-  Plan your work, work your plan:  write the essay.
Revising-  Re look-  Make changes.
Editing-  Fix grammar mistakes.
Publishing- Perfect. 

6-traits

Voice- The personality of the author.
Ideas-  The message- the purpose-  the meat of the paper.
Conventions-  Grammar- mechanical correctness.
Organization--  Plan you follow-  Logical to others.
Sentence Fluency-  The rhythm and flow.
Word choice-  The best words for the situation- vocab the writer uses.

Rhetorical Triangle

Its a way of thinking about writing that helps you persuade.

Logos-   Logic and facts. 
Pathos-  Emotions and feelings and beliefs.
Ethos-   Establishing that the author is trustworthy.

Topic-  What it's about-  the main points.
Audience-  People it's for
Purpose-  The reason you are writing.

Thesis-  A statement of opinion that organizes and drives your essay forward.

7 Common Grammar Mistakes.

Comma splice-  I love dogs, they are nice.
Parallelism-       I love to bike, walk, and eating.
Subject Verb Agreement- John like food.
Tense shift-  John likes food and liked cooking.
Run on sentences-  John likes food he likes cooking.
Fragments-  John likes food and.
Pronoun antecedent agreement-  He is someone that likes dogs.

Comprehension Strategies-

Ways to understand what you read.

Connect-  Use previous knowledge to relate to the text.
Ask ?-   Query yourself about the text-  What does this mean?  What is the author saying?
Visualize-  Create a picture in your mind.
Determine importance-  Figure out what matters.
Infer-  Determine based on evidence, but we use prior knowledge to figure out meaning.
Synthesize-  Combine-- new and old info to create new interpretation or knowledge.

Fix-up Strategies-

1.  Recognize that I don't understand-  I'm thinking while I read about my reading!  Metacognition.

9.  Chunk words--- make them smaller-  Re  Vision
