Because Hamlet uses words like “Foul” and “pestilent” and “vapors”
to describe what he sees. If something
is foul, it is bad smelling or gross. A
pestilence is a plague, another negative image, and vapors are usually
dangerous. All of these words carry a
negative connotation, so Hamlet must be unhappy with his world.
