Editing Day 1



1.   Summarize your story, your narrative.  What’s the topic?  Audience?  Purpose?  

2.   Telling--

3.   Alchemist Quiz-

Who is the main character?
What does he want to do for a job?
What do his parents want him to do?
What does his family give him as he leaves?
Who is the author?
Does he meet any other people in part one?  Who?
What theme does the author seem to be writing about?

One of the themes in The Alchemist is --------------- and the author shows this through his words.  For example, he writes that, “…………………………..” (Coehlo 7). Further, he writes that, “……………………” (Cohelo 23).  This demonstrates the theme of-------------------------, and this theme seems to be one the author is attempting to establish.





4.   Groups and Editing.

1.    Is it in MLA format?  Edit that for the author.
2.   Is there a beginning, middle and end?
3.   Is the story interesting to someone?
4.   Do they start in the middle and go back?
5.   Circle any mistakes/typos you see.
6.   Are there paragraphs?
7.   Is there dialogue? Does it look the same as in The Alchemist?
8.   Offer a compliment.
9.   What would you add?
10.         What would you take away?
11.         What’s the Topic, Audience, Purpose?













5.   Essay # 2 – Problem/Solution.

Pick a local, close to you, problem.
Narrate the problem-  tell a story to get us interested-  explain the problem in the story.
Interview others to gather information.
Research possible solutions and include your research in the essay.
Explain those solutions and describe if they are viable.
Pick one and put it into action.

6.   HW-  Reading-  to 74 plus essay editing. Bring in a revised Essay in MLA format tomorrow.   Also, think of a problem for your problem/solution essay.
